Fund Raising Activities
In the early years, our need for finance was not much of an issue as our Executive Committee members contributed immensely to meet the shortfall in our financial requirements. This was also supplemented with fund raising activities such as stage plays with the assistance of well-known stage artistes Messrs. Wijeratne Warakagoda and Douglas Ranasinghe who were members of the Executive Committee then.
Organizing major fund-raising events began when we presented the very successful musical show ‘Memories in Rhythm’ featuring various popular artists in 2007 spearheaded by Past President late Lakshman Hulugalla followed later with ‘Annites Sing- Along 2014’, Annite Sing-Along 2015, The ‘Golden Oldies Concert’ and ‘Annites Sing-Along 2016’ featuring our own Annite Boniface Fernando from Australia with ‘Sohan & the Xperiments’ in attendance was a sell-out. This very successful event was organized by Past Presidents Malik Cader and Bandula Weerasekera.
Apart from the musical shows Past President Mr. Malik Cader during his Presidency organized two very successful business seminars targeting the corporate employees in Colombo to generate enough funds as well as enhancing the image of the Colombo Union in the business sector.
A sing-a-long was organized by a special committee appointed by the EXCO Committee of 2019/20 – SACK Colombo Union in order to raise funds for the implementation of two welfare projects for the students of our alma mater, St. The projects identified by the Committee were,
- Renovation and upgrading of sanitary facilities of the school.
- Provision of clean drinking pipe-borne water for the students with the installation of reverse osmosis water purification plant.
The sing-a-long event was held as planned on 26th October 2019 at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute Auditorium, Colombo 7 attended by a live musical band ‘Flame’. The event was well organized and patronized by members and their families who enjoyed the evening with good music, singing, dancing, fellowship and dinner.
